GOPOPS - Fiji
Dates: July 16 - 26, 2008
Summary
The Island of Kadavu is found in the southern part of the Fiji islands, surrounded by one of the world’s largest coral reefs. The lifestyle of most of Kadavu's people continues largely unchanged from previous generations. There are few roads and no large towns. Small villages dot the coastline. Most people get around either on foot or by boat.
Our voyage into the wonders of Kadavu will include a mixture of kayaking, snorkeling, scuba-diving, and trekking depending on skill level, and weather. Along the way, we will be studying the fascinating history of migration, settlement and development of the islands, as well as the pre-existing governing structure dating back 3000 years. Tamarillo Expeditions, our host, always includes time for students to live within the local communities and experience the social structures, customs and ceremonies. A trip to Fiji could not be complete with out spending time studying the Great Astrolabe Reef which surrounds the Kadavu Island Group. Tamarillo Expeditions will supply both the local knowledge and the resources (including scuba-dive equipment and experienced dive-masters) to support students wanting to study and explore this rare eco-system. This trip provides the picture perfect setting to take a pause from college preparation and enjoy the natural wonders of Fiji, while making friends who will last a lifetime.
"Privilege. Our party has been able to experience things that virtually all other visitors to Fiji would never experience." Dave, NZ
