Major:
Year: 2010
OE Certifications: GOAT
Medical Certifications: WFA
There once was a girl from the West
Who couldn't give the outdoors' a rest
So she the joined the GOATS
So that she could devote
The next four years to a quest.
And though she lives in the city DC
She'd much rather be taking a wee
Behind a nice rock
Not in a port-o-pot
And spend the night under a tree.
So if you would like to go hiking--
backpacking, sailing, or biking,
Drop me a line
We'll have a good time
And the outdoors, I hope, you'll start liking!

Animal Planet is her channel of choice and Steve Irwin is her hero. At home, Lindsay loves exploring in the woods, hiking, canoeing, visiting new places, restoring habitat, catching snakes (so she can move them away from the house before her mom notices them) and observing all kinds of wildlife. At OE Lindsay loves going hiking, backpacking, kayaking, caving, and rock climbing, as well as meeting new people and having an awesome time!
Name: Wyatt Gjullin

OE Certifications: GOAT, GRIP
Medical Certifications: WFA
My name is Wyatt Gjullin. I grew up in a small town
nestled in the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State.
I spent my days hunting coyotes and frolicking in the river. I often
trespassed through orchards to ascend unimaginably high peaks. I am now
at Georgetown University doing the same thing more or
less. (less).I don't really like cookies soaked in espresso. If you want to go rafting I'm your guy, I will take you there in the midnight
hour, you will feel my power. I hope you come on an OE trip with
me, then you can join the family!

Name: Claire Kreycik
Major: Biology
Year: 2007
OE Certifications: GOAT
Medical Certifications: WFA
Claire is a lover of nature in John Muir's vein.
Living in central Virginia, she always opts to go to the Shenandoah mountains over the crowded beaches.
Little Claire used to roam through neighborhood drainpipes and go creekwalking-
it's in her mossy, craggy, muddy blood. Her favorite outdoor sports range from
bike touring, to cross-country skiing, to climbing, to spelunking. She has been
on the AT in most states, and recently enjoyed scrambling up ice in the White
Mountains of New Hampshire. This summer she is determined to learn, against all
odds, to "mountain unicycle," or MUni for short! Mostly, she digs
sleeping under the stars, building cairns, breathing fresh air, and pointing out small animals on trails. You will
probably dig her, too, if you go hiking with her.
Name: Katie Martin
Major: Chinese and Pre-Med
Year: 2011
Katie hails from the northeast corner of Oklahoma. She loves being outdoors and enjoying nature in almost every manner possible. Perhaps, one could say that she favors donning a backpack to hike up and down mountains for great lengths of time. She is a two-time graduate of National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) with which she spent 28 blissful days in Wyoming hiking throughout the Big Horn Mountain Range, and another 28 days in Alaska kayaking around Prince William Sound and hiking through the Chugach. Katie has seen Mt. Everest, but instead of training to hike up it, has decided to dedicate the next four years of her life to leading Georgetown Outdoor Education excursions.
Name: Jane Pannebaker
Medical Certifications: WFA
I am a New Yorker, born and raised on the upper west side of Manhattan, so it may be a bit surprising that I'm now a GOAT- dedicating my time escaping the city life to venture into the wilderness. But really, I have always loved the outdoors just as much or more than my 20th floor view of the New York City skyline. I have been riding horses since I was seven and have spent most of my childhood summers at a horseback riding camp in the middle of nowhere Vermont. In high school I travelled with the ski and snowboard club to many exciting and snowy destinations. I also love to rock climb, though I have been limited to the indoor climbing wall on 65th street since apparently there are not too many natural rock formations in nyc. I am excited to be part of Outdoor Ed for my final semester at Georgetown and can't wait to spend more time in the great outdoors.

brightly-colored lycra and makes his legs go in circles thousands and thousands
of times for fun, Alex is the one. Alex also enjoys hiking,
mountaineering, climbing, and flailing in Yates pool while occasionally trying

Name: Leah Allen
Major: SFS - Culture and Politics
Year: 2005
OE Certifications: GOAT
Medical Certifications: WFA
Leah was lucky enough to be born and raised in the fabulous state of Arkansas, where all the cool people come from. After a childhood of running around barefoot while pretending to be Laura from "Little House on the Prairie," (and after some unfortunate accidents with poisonous snakes and an amoeba-born parasite) she learned to put on boots and enjoy the comforts of a well-worn trail. Such as the Ozark Highlands Trail and the Buffalo River Trail, two of her favorite routes to backpack when at home, and the site of her favorite outdoor spot, Hawksbill Craig. Anything that takes place outdoors sounds good to Leah, be it hiking, backpacking, skiing, canoeing, belaying, caving, playing frisbee with her dogs, or just watching the stars. When in DC she leads mostly trekking trips and dayhikes, with the occasional cave trip thrown in for variety and mud wrestling purposes.
Name: Andrew Balkam
Major: English
Year: 2006
OE Certifications: GOAT
Medical Certifications: WFA
OE Duties: Bike Program Management
Andrew has been a chronic outdoorsman since surviving the 1995 flood at his first week of Scout camp, which instead of driving him away from the outdoors only made him more eager. Since then he has found himself hiking sections of the AT through MD, VA and PA, as well as completeing five high adventure treks with his Scout troop, three of which were 11 day hauls in Philmont, NM. He has also gone on or led a GO-POP trip each year he has attended Georgetown, and much preferred the quiescent forests of the Adirondacks to the labyrinthine hills of the WV backcountry. He would one day like to thru hike the AT, but until then might have to settle for traversing the endlessly magnificent landscapes of New Zealand next spring. He loves biking around town, or back home to MD, and will probably try to rent you a bike within five minutes of meeting you. When indoors, he does some work in the theater, and is a member of IATSE Local 22. He is also a Double Eagle.
